Toots Team Member – Cafe Cook/Chef

Ahh Toots; Bristol’s cult independent ‘Cakery & Biscuitier,’ laden with artisan cakes, bakes and homemade savouries. Situated in one of the city’s most iconic arts quarters, the Christmas steps, a bustling and cosy 13th century café, partnered with our neighbouring independent bakery. Female founded and ran, proud of being a unique, welcoming and safe space for all.
Our innovative and growing company is looking for a Cafe Chef who is responsible for day-to-day stocking and running of the kitchen at Ahh toots. Managing food preparation, breakfast and lunch service. Along with any additional small event catered events (on or off site.) Following company recipe specifications and also bringing your own creative flair and passion to the kitchen. You will be working directly with the managing director/
owner on the creation, development and implementation of existing and future products. You’ll demonstrate strong independence and organisational qualities with attention to detail in elevating and sustaining our brand and reputation. You will be accountable for the quality and consistency of all products produced and served.
Responsibilities include:
- Prepare all food and menu items to order as required and to the correct standard and company specification in a timely manner.
- Follow all opening, during shift and closing procedures, including setting up and prep duties, and closedown and cleaning duties as required
- Work in accordance with Environmental Health Organisation (EHO) standards, taking particular care when catering to guests with allergies, using correct knives and tongs, and preventing cross contamination. Making sure all items are stored and labelled correctly.
- Ensure that all fridges, freezers and other food storage areas are clean, tidy and well organised in line with Food Safety procedures at all times
- Put away deliveries and rotate stock to minimise wastage and serve produce at its best.
- Communicate with the Operations Director when you see stock levels are low.
- Work with colleagues to create and maintain an interesting seasonal menu.
- Assist your colleagues whenever and wherever possible, promoting excellent teamwork
- Inform front of house of daily specials and complete allergen sheet as required.
- Complete any duties assigned to you by the management team
PERSONAL EXPECTATIONS
- Culinary knowledge and back of house experience, a creative innovative culinary spirit is a must!
- Knowledge of the operation and management of a food service business
- Organisational understanding,
- Punctual and good time management, making sure all tasks for the day have been completed,
- Clean, tidy and have good personal hygiene. A toots uniform and apron will be provided to you,
- Be willing to jump into any task, supporting other areas of the business that need it, ie. answering the phone, serving customers,washing up etc,
- Maintain good communication with the rest of the team and always feedback should any issues arise.
- Have an up-to-date food and hygiene certificate at least level 2.
WORKING PATTERN: The days and times of work will be on a rota basis over 4 days. Requirements to work and outside of core hours may occur, especially during the busy and festive periods.
